Sitting By Her Side

Sitting By Her Side

I’m here, as always, every day,
She’s  looking much the same.
I pull the  blankets, smooth the sheets,
and gently speak her name.

“Hello Mum, I’m here again
I’ve flowers for your room.
The sweet peas smell so fragrant,
hope you’ll wake to see them soon”

What music shall I chose today?
She did so love to sing.
The Carpenters or Doris Day
Pavarotti or maybe Sting?

I take her fragile  hand in mine
and massage in some creams.
Her nails I’ve painted Dusky Pink,
she’s lost in silent dreams.

I wonder if she knows I'm here
and how I love her so,
and pray that she wakes up one day,
I just cant let her go….

But let her go I think I must.
Her time on earth now short.
Remembering the love she gave
and lessons that she taught.

She showed me how to live my life
the best way that I can.
To cherish those most dear to us
and do the best we can.

I read her favourite book to her,
the way she read to me,
and hope that she can hear my words,
although she cannot see.

To value everyone I meet
and treat them with respect.
To thank God every day for life
and nobody reject.

She is my perfect mentor.
I hope  I’ve done my part.
She was the great love of my life,
she’ll always have my heart.
