Poem -
Slaves To Our Past ?
When you study all aspects of history
Especially that of societies infected by bigotry
When you discover how race can treat race
You realize that some have been a disgrace
Treating fellow man as a commodity to be soldÂ
A story of prejudice and slavery has to be told !
When you see how conflicts have started
When you see how some can be so evil hearted
They can consider another human being inferior
It is now time to follow a path so much superior !
You see that many of the problems faced today
Are a product of many, in the past, being led astray
It's time to respect equality, proving what is right
To live with each other having much greater foresight.

Hey Richard!!........it's like you wrote this just for me...........my mom is white and father Black.......I was born in 1959..........so living in the 60's and 70's as a mulatto child was a trip........I could tell you so many stories about racial bigotry it would curl your hair........one time in 9th grade there was petition sent around the neighborhood to have us removed from the neighborhood because my mother was white raising 5 little brown kids in a high class Virginia neighborhood..........and the hits just kept on coming.........anyway this was an awesome write,.........and I think there isn't enough poetry written on this subject matter.........Thank You my friend..........much appreciated...........T xo
