Sleep Angels

Mask tight and blanket warm
As my carriage leaves the violent storm.
Eyes closed and breaths drawn deep,
Sounds indiscernible, drift to sleep.
Beep, beep, drip, drip, sleep angels travail
To rid the pain of the ill and frail.
Glassed eyes flicker and gaze around,
White clothed blur and distant sounds.
Is it leaves rustling on a windy day
Or a murmurous waterfall's foaming spray?
Immersed in surreal cognition,
Mind falls prey to lost volition.
I am a moonlit rainbow shining bright,
Cloaked by the darkness of a starry night.
I am a chameleon dancing the forest floor,
Oblivious to all faded yore.
Where do all the moments hide
That twirl me all around inside?
Smoke screens obscure, all's not real;
Bobble head bouncing on a worn shock wheel.
Must climb the raindrops through the cloud
And face the angels in the crowd
And waiting there she may be
To take my hand and walk with me.
Hop the fence; swim the meadow,
Flowered wake blowing yellow.
Solivagant dreams dissipate
And the paths unseen, anticipate.
Ceiling fan squeaks on a porch shaded,
Rocking chair creaks, paint faded.
Waves crash and rush the sand,
All blurred movement bright and tan.
The sky above is colored pink,
Diffusing sun for the soul to drink.
Piano notes float from a balcony near
And fall like rain drops on my ear.
Cobbled streets wet with rain
Reflect gas lamps in the window pane.
Black cane, top hat weaves the alley
Under no obligation, life's to dally.
Phantom on horseback silver painted
Reflects the moon of an angel sainted.
Violin and saxophone notes release
To the night wind for all to feast
On the jazz fog through osmosis
Giving comfort to all necrosis.
Morphia cannot allay the anguish;
But in the sleep you cease to languish.
The ear will hear and the eye shall see
That sleep angels are indeed the key.
Eyes roll back and forth to see
The clock is now a quarter past three.
Dark to light, despair to hope,
And the human race strives to cope
With all the pain and sorrow faced
By many who are simply graced
By those who give their lives to find
The answer to the troubled mind
That struggles with the pain it feels,
In hopes the gift of life will heal!
I whisper weakly "Where am I?"
To the white clothed passing by.
"All went fine and we will move you soon,
You are in the recovery room."
