SLEEPING ON THE LEDGE

These are stressful times
Do what's right and you're treated
Like a criminal doing hard time
Enough to drive one out of their mind
Each day begins with a storm
Even though prayers were made for calm
My bread I eat with tears
Each step is taken in fear
My promotion has become a demotion
The people I manage takes advantage
Kindness is greeted with hostility
I must cease being me
And conform to this new reality
An aspirin a day prescribed for my heart
Or the pressures of life will tear it apart
A pill to sleep at night and one to help me
Through the day
Repeating key words that my psychiatrist say
This job is in control of me
I am led to the slaughter by those over me
I'm like a psychopath living on the edge
And late at night I find comfort
Sleeping on the ledge.
