Small Encounters

In the crevice of two rocks,
Water splashing all around.
Underneath the waterfall,
This is how he was found.
I barely see him.
Kneeling down to get closer,
While he just sat and stared.
As my hand was reaching out,
No scurrying off.
He wasn't scared!
So I picked him up.
A little squirming,
Slightly twisting turning.
Until he was laying in my palm.
Then he just hung out,
Super calm.
Slowly moving at first,
I think I warmed him up.
Starting to move faster,
Up the arm he crawled.
I was with two friends,
They each took their turn.
Saying hello with admiration.
I don't think he minded,
When we took a few pictures.
He offered no retaliation.
It was time to keep going,
For our adventure wasn't done.
Back on the ground i put him.
He slowly moved off,
Back to the rocks.
He didn't run.
As I think of this encounter.
I remember a small creature,
And a friend.
Bright orange on the bottom,
Beautiful, end to end.
