Snow Nymph

As the night sky decends
upon the icy river,
the glistening reflection
mocks the laughing moon.
The stars alight from the heavens
to dance across the gleaming surface,
caught and placed in the flowing hair
of the snow nymphs that dwell
in the crystal caves. 
Their siren's song takes flight 
upon the chilled air and alights 
upon the swift wings of the barn owl,
racing past the evergreens and the silent pines,
slipping under the cracks of the cabin door
to nestle in the ears of sleeping children
and lull them with dreams of sugarplums,
and upon the break of day, 
their sweet melody fades
as the sun's rosy fingers grasp at 
the snow-laden blades of grass.
