Soft Strings, Hard Tears

The sounds I listen most often to, while the pen is in my hand;
Is the music of such softened strings, the most lovely known to man!
The ancient songs of China play, the Pipa master strums;
Emotions soar as the notes begin, and soon the teardrops come!
Jai Peng Fang and Jaing Xiao Qing, virtuosos of their trade;
Their tunes put me into a trance, the greatest ever made!
The Japanese master Kitaro plays, the Universe appears;
His creations give Mother Nature life, and also bring my tears!
Then there is the lovely Lute, with Gaelic sounds of Erse;
So deftly they incite my words, which quickly I disperse!
Lastly there is the Violin, its strings tug at my heart;
Heifetz, Perlman, and Menuhin, the epitome of their art!
I write my odes as Heaven sings, and the Angels serenade;
The passion of their songs surround, as if my words they bade!
Forever will I hear these tunes, they are sequestered in my soul;
Soft strings that bring hard tears to me, but also keep me whole!

Hi Charlotte,
Than you for your beautiful compliment, and welcome to Cosmo. I am going right now to read your poem about a drum. I am quite interested in it, because as a teenager, I was a drummer. So, rat a tat tat for now!
Peace and Love,

Larry, my dear friend,
I love this last line...over the years, it has taken "Soft strings...[to]...keep me whole" too.
However, the picture you paint with the first two stanzas is the one I've had in my mind for some time now; of Lo Ran Zen sitting in his Japanese garden, writing his haikus as the otherworldly sounds of diatonic music shimmer in the air, his battle-scarred katana slumbering in its scabbard by his side.
Please tell me that's an accurate image of how you write!! If it's not...I will be so disillusioned!!!
Seriously though...I love this poem. It comes as no surprise that the gentle and creative spirit of Master Ran is soothed and inspired by strings of all kinds.
your friend & fan,
J ;)
My Dear Friend Jason,
It is of no surprise to me too that these lovely ancient sounds of the Pipa and Koto, touch your soul also. They take me back millenniums, as I lose myself in the Universe. It is a beautiful scenario you have suggested about the Japanese Garden, but sadly, I do my writing at a table with windows that look out to an endless golf course, facing the east for beautiful sunrises. So, I am somewhat connected to nature as I write, and of course, with the music as the background, my pen glides almost by rote. However, in your alluding to something Japanese, Linda does do the Japanese Tea Ceremony for me. It is amazing to me the connection of yours and my heart and soul.
Peace and Love,
