Something Lurks

Something Lurks

The flame flickers
then goes out.
In the darkness
something lurks about.

Swift and silent
wishing not to be heard.Β
It moves closerΒ
not uttering a word.Β

A woman sits upΒ
in her bed.
She looks about
and feels no dread.Β

The presence halts
and stares at her.
Those bright blue eyes
cause a slight stir.

The flame is suddenly ablazeΒ
filling the room with light.Β
He feels the beat of his heart
suddenly take flight.Β

She smiles at him
as she finally sees.
Her husband is home
from over seas.Β

That was the idea! It was going to be dark then I had sudden inspiration from a time my father got home from a long trip overseas. The wording sounded better with a husband and wife stance so I went with that. I'm glad you enjoyed it!Β
