Spiral

we
seemingly
spiral

through
a cosmos

of the
stagnant
and the
viral

as the
sickness
of idols
flows
in cycles

it consumes
a culture
far too
removed
from what's
proper

they've adopted
doctrines
that are
self-serving

depriving them
of learning
about that
which is outside
the scope
of the tip
of their own
nose

so we dispose

of traditions
and customs
that have
served to
function
as signals
at societal
junctions

preventing
mass resenting
and relenting
to the need
to look outside
of ourselves

will common
courtesy
once again prevail?

one can only hope

that through
the smog
of these clouds
of smoke

we'll one day
find revival

lest we
continue
this meaningless
spiral
