Stand Still

Lightning strips the night sky
Thunder howls and tears at the wind
Scatter my lonely bones
Take me to my quiet home
My heart pounds like the beating thunder
Scared to death, my heart stops
My body quakes with fear, blood pounds in my ears
What do I do?
Where do I run?
The wind screams at my back, pushing me down flat
Throwing me, crushing me
Thunder shakes the air out of my lungs
Splitting the earth open from its roots
Lightning melts my soul until it’s nothing more
A tear escapes from me, frozen stone cold
The tear falls and the lightning grows nearer
Fell the heat from the white spiked barb of light
Don’t move, not an inch; not even a tiny blink or twitch
As it tears up the world around you
If you move, you will freeze as ever living statue of life
But for now you’re stuck, waiting for the storm to pass
For lightning never strikes the same place twice
