Standing on the Shoulders of Others
The battle within

The battle lies within,
Looking for guidance,
To lead in existence,
All battles remain within,
When all happiness is laid,
Upon the shoulders of others,
Sadness be blamed upon them,
Searching for reason,
Love guilty of treason,
Hatred replaces in blame,
Anger breeds loathing,
Of they once guiding,
For it is they who be guilty of sin,
Now social chameleon,
Bound by opinions,
For nothing of you is unique,
A patchwork personality,
Devoid of reality,
For now who surround you will lead,
The war it is fought, between ears that don't listen, eyes that don't see & by lips that will seal your fate,
You're told what is real,
Believing only what you feel,
By the ease of the path laid before you,
They who had lead you,
Are forgotten with ease,
Discarded when they no longer please,
A life waits to greet you,
A search with no ending,
For someone to lead,
To fulfill your need,
That you may be carried,
On all shoulders you've worn,
The search will continue,
Many left in your wake,
Only the quest to be happy will remain...

Hi Graham, I really like your poem, It really seems to resonate with me your write is so simple and explicit but its balance is really impactful for me. All the best. The Fish of the Sea.
Thank you, its nice to hear my poetry resonates ❤
Ahhh.... The quest to be happy! We are all in that quest! Every single one of us. And some of us have it, "happy" , and some of us don't. But you know what? In recent days I have been chewing this over and over (the subject of being happy) and I have come to the conclusion that happiness is transient. It comes and goes like the spring, waxes and wanes like the moon, only not as cyclable and certainly not as predictable. I don't think anyone can be truly happy all of the time because "happiness" has commitment issues, it doesn't stick around ~ it comes and goes. (Transient, see?) . I think we have to recognise when happy hits us. And it can hit us at very odd moments and in varying amounts, from the miniscule (a reason to flash a genuine smile) to the herculean (winning the lottery jackpot) . The trick is not to ignore the miniscule, recognise it and celebrate it even if it only lasted a nanno second. Don't ever wait around for the big happy or you will miss out on ever being happy if the big happy never materialises. Anyway, great poem, my friend! (And sorry for the rambling) x
Do not apologise because that was no ramble, very eloquently put & very true ❤
It was your poem... It stirred up my thoughts again ?? x
