Poem -

Stars

Sometimes

when the night is long

hollow

and dark-

I'll look up at the stars.

And I'll wonder why

I cannot shine as bright.

Why can't I be written about

be sacred in history-

in mythology?

Why can't I be so profound in the night sky?

Why can't I be seen and appreciated by all?

Why can't I be seen by you.

I want to form patterns in your mind-

trace constellations on your lips-

burn bright like your soul-

but I am just space.

Once a star maybe-

but long since gone.

Still visible to those afar-

but burned out and dark-

in a display that barely left a char.
