Stars of Hope

Stars of Hope

When I look up into the sky I see a blanket of stars
Tiny pockets of hope floating through the air, far away
Unreachable to me
Yet, providing hope

A labyrinth of roads stretch as far as the eye could see
Rows and rows of lots filled with trees stood at our sides
Men and women hacking away, a hungry promise of loyalty in mind
But the rows of families in my line of sight went farther
Families desperate for a reliablability in their life
Those with numbered days stretched as far as their broken promises
Like those twinkling stars
They couldn’t help me, not if they tried
Yet, providing hope

I have to keep going
Must reach the beyond
With my hands that are blotchy red tinted with dirt from the trees
Stomach feels like an empty well after a drought
Back to the black storm I trudge forward
Eyes drooping, stomach empty, hands throbbing, I look at the sky
Through eyes blurred with tears, I see the stars
An unreachable haven away from this world
Providing me hope

I feel the sun glaring at my back
The twigs that snap as I walk
Wind whispering words into my ears
Water drops slowly flowing down a winding stream leading the way
Each drop a memory
Each drop a star
Keep going, keep fighting, keep your head up high to reach your paradise
Or forever sink beneath the unreachable stars
