STATUE OF AMUSEMENT

STATUE OF AMUSEMENT

STATUE OF AMUSEMENT

Ricardo Antonio Garcia

So here we are tonight

mixing cultural diversity with poetic lines.

The library steps are cold

as an unforgiving winter possesses these anomalies

where the shake of poverty

becomes a warm blanket for a ‘real world’ poet

surviving the anguish and pain

as the books in the interior stay warm and dry.

So here we are together

hoping that these things we say will matter.

Watching snow covered buses

bloom black clouds of smoke into the snow

coughing from its closeness

gasping for breath and turning my face

a poet is homeless even with a roof above him

adopting a world of insecurities.

Famous poets

living and dying in their temperaments, snowless

and some shadowless things said.

Alluring paths to the unsequestered physical

and the lost spiritual essences

digging deeper into a senseless paradox, and why

when we all will disappear from view.

The morgue in the library

is the testimonial truth to our awakened beings

decorating and intertwining our meanings

for a joyous romp in the hay.

So here I am embittered and unwaged

for my legacy is still to be determined by fax.

This modern millennium

goes on without a face of recognitions as the poets

paint the faces of our illusions.

If I am damned, I will freeze upon these steps

and for better or worse a monument

shall endure here for the ages as a symbol, that

the crushing torments of a poet

will surpass their literary contributions

to be at odds

with the endurance and legacy or the content.

Which shall it be?

Shall we procure our amusements?
