Stolen Hope

Brute cages are locked tight

With bars of blackened steel

Escape only at night

Where unreal becomes real

Liquid hope drains from minds

Truth seeps from under cracks

Leaving harsh days days behind

Until light brings it back

Hark the Angels prevail

Peeling layers from sight

Leaving no trace nor trail

Where wrong shall find the right

Imagination dies

The empty mind packed full

No child's soul survives

Bright colors turn to dull

Try as hard as you might

There is no escaping

And even with no fright

You'll find yourself shaking

The battles that you face

Attack you from inside

A never-ending race

An ever-changing tide

But there's always a way

A place that you can flee

Not a word must you say

Just go now and be free

But the cages come still

As they will every day

And they will come until

Death can drag you away
