Stone Angel

How dreary this lackluster place
These walls so encompassing
The dark encircling its relentless grasp
Keeping me a prisoner here.
Lead me on to who knows where,
Life was hopeful, at one time
Now gnarled hands with spots exposed
Diamond skin crinkled and old.
Oh crackling fire, how you burn
The sands of time for which you yearn
Cannot turn the tide and back again
Youth has flown and won’t return.
Wine my only comfort now,
Drown out the cries of aging woes
How can it be that time can fly
But fly it has and doomed me here.
I will complain with howling blast
Remember all too well the happy time,
When nighttime comes and steals the glow
Of beautiful dreams lost under the snow.

I wrote this poem after reading the book The Stone Angel, which my son had to read for Grade 12 English.
I should mention that the book the Stone Angel is about a woman's life, her wrong choices and how at the end of it she was left bitter, disillusioned and a sour old thing.
very nice congrats x
Thanks :)
you drew the angel also? Is it pencils or paint? It's gorgeous, like pond stone, and yet delicate. :)
