A STONE THAT TIME FORGOT

Faceless
Defenceless
Forgotten
The weather ravaged it ages ago
Planted in the ground
Atop a hole that has been
Owned for so long
Its inhabitant has been forgotten
Only the algae calls it a living home
The stone that promised so much
And would remind us all who was there
Has lost its strength to the weather
And the ravages of an endless time
No one comes anymore
They are as still as the one
That has been forgotten
They too have markers
That though fresher
Get stale and hidden
As the day rises and ends
Only a few are maintained
Only a few have faces that
Can be read
Most have empty markers
That tell no story
Apart from living
No longer resides
But death has taken what life promised it
My day will come
Your day will come
Not all will have a hole to spend
More time in
Than the place we once called home
But we all will be nothing
As we leave living to
Those that will follow us one day
Sad but true
The grave conquers
The soul departs
The flesh rots
