The Story of a Doctor

There is a doctor
In my hospital
Who holds pain in his eyes

His green eyes are beautiful
Especially when he smiles
But he doesn't do that often

He told me about the past
With tears in his eyes
And pain in his heart

"I've seen them die.
Quickly and slowly.
And I was the one to do it.

"I wasn't good enough.
Fast enough,
Strong enough.

I watched him,
Tears pouring out his eyes
I just let him cry.

"You've seen them die.
Quickly and slowly.
But you weren't the one to do it.

"You were good enough
Fast enough
Strong enough.

"You did your very best.
You did all you could.
You've seen them die
But you've also saved lives.

The doctor looked at me
With a smile on his face
And happiness in his heart

"You're right,
I saved many lives.
But you have saved mine.
