THE CURRENT
For whom does Time suspend its breath?
That relentless Current cannot be
held back, no moment is sacred,
no witness can command it still.
The ocean may hush its turbulent heart,
the sky's dark thunder find its peaceā
yet this era, this fleeting stage,
is but the face of endless, turning time.
What sorrow has this Age not observed?
The cruelties whispered by human hands,
the shudder of a conscience unbound,
the lingering taste of bitter memory.
And still, we, the enlightened souls,
refuse the lesson, the painful truth;
instead, we embrace the shadow's bargain,
and turn a hallowed Earth into a desolate cry.
Between the first frail light and the final dark,
how vast a chasm must be crossed?
The manner of our living, the methods we choose,
become the exquisite tragedy of humankind.
