THE ARTH'S EMBRACE
POEM BY WILLIAMSJI MAVELI

THE EARTH'S EMBRACE
We have swollen, ripened, a lush,
velvet bloom,
But where now will our hungry
fingers roam?
For the Earth's wild, beating heart was never tamed.
It is now a bitter taste upon the ocean's tongue,
Plastic silt, choking the ancient,
salty springs.
Waste piles, a grotesque, hard nipple on the mountain's chest.
A stain we pressed into the skin of
what we love.
The Earth's fevered, primal lust will not subside.
So take hold, make amends, and feel this world again,
Or feel the tremble of panicked flesh,
As Mother Earth exhales a sigh that strips us bare,
And sees the lie beneath our urgent, shallow kiss.
Nature is alive, a vibrant, electric current.
Nature sustains us, feeding us from its deep, soft well.
Nature holds us, our anchor, our sweet, slow surrender,
Yet can unmake us with a single, sudden thrust.
