Such was Love: Such was Death

What if love’s sensation was all pain? The moon wouldn’t
Be so full. What if she burned love; and forged documents?
The sun wouldn’t be so bright. What if love destroyed
Love; and feigned affection: would you sympathize? What

If she cried smiles; and begged assurance; and lied freely:
Would you shelter love? What if love fell apart, and ran
South: would you take love back? Indeed—such love—rots
Perception; and such love—loves itself: a hellish love.

What if love was bruised: both thighs: same mark: same
Space: would you thirst the lie? The moon wouldn’t be
So full; and the sun wouldn’t be so bright. Indeed—this love,
A desperate love: a sordid love: the death of love; and I
Lived this love: a fool for love; and died this love: aloft for
Love. The moon was so full. The sun was so bright.
