Summer

I've never felt so at peace with the world
like I do at this very moment.
The way the sun rises slowly,
or the way the air sits so still around me.
The dew on the grass,
as I brush my feet along,
sends chills down my spine.
The ache in my belly from a strong morning hunger,
mixed just right with the light makes me feel younger.
The days of our youth carefully pass by,
before we get a change to even ask 'why'.
The sun aiming higher,
just kissing the treetops.
Kissing them with such love and grace,
between the sun and the sky there is endless space.
Clouds roam about,
some here, some there,
but this summer morning is nothing to compare.
But as the morning drags on,
soon passing the light onto the afternoon;
The afternoon is inviting,
as bodies stir about,
small adult talk here,
and the kids down the street let out a shout.
But even good days must come to an end,
soon to discover,
nighttime is only your friend;
The rapidly approaching dusk is nothing to fear,
catching fireflies and having bonfires with a smile to each ear.
Not all days are like this one,
not even the sun,
but just think, you still had a lot of fun.
