Summer On Loos Ranch

Bursting through the horizon, the sun finally decides to rub away the lingering streaks of dusk
Warm rays creep through open fields and meadows, spearing dew-drops to create daylight fireflies
The self-important rooster screams the hour from his perch atop the hen house
Worn walls creek and moan, mimicking the home's occupants as they struggle to wake
Hectic bed-heads roll reluctantly off of pillows, and disinclined feet land heavily on tired floor boards
This is the morning on Loos Ranch
Eggs are collected, dogs are fed, and horses are watered before the heat contentedly settles on the
valley
Too stifling to do chores, lunches tumble into sandy coolers and faded towels sling over bare shoulders
Five children pile into the truck bed, eagerly clutching edges and corners to avoid being pitched into
the grass
The sparkling sandbar lies nestled between the calm warm lagoon and the swift sneering river
The five run sun kissed and reeling from water to land, relishing the cool splashes and the blistering shore
Sharing a canoe, coasting beneath low hanging branches, gently parting light-dappled currents
This is the afternoon on Loos Ranch
Gone again, the sun leaves the twilight sky blushing and fondled with effulgence
A bold fire springs from the coals, passionately arching upward, striving to warm the world's frigidity
Stories weave from young to old, sparking ingenuity, bounding around the flames with flirtatious zeal
The moon hurdles cloud after cloud, blazing among the stars before impishly diving back to shadow
One by one all drifting to bed, collapsing under covers, smiling in the sheets, surrendering to sleep
This is the evening on Loos Ranch
