A Summer Romance

A summer romance
The sultry heat of late summer
Air drenched in water
But they may be tears.
The fading rose its petals falling
As we prepare for life’s demands.
Far away to live on different shores.
Time and distance now hurdles.
Softly the summer breezes bloomed.
Fragrances of gardenia and jasmine
Love tonics from mother earth.
Quietly we lay in its abundance
Two children from deep within our memory.
Our pale skin tanned from sunshine.
Our innocence replaced by wanton needs
The stones of inhibition thrown to the wind
I touch your hair and trace your lips
With the pad of my finger.
We cast our bodies into one last
Night of love
Even the moonbeams whisper
In the night breeze.
We promise our lives
To keep this love alive
Defying geography and distance.
The nightingale sings it love songs
And wisely knows these lies well.
