Sunshine On My Shoulder

When I hear “Sunshine On My Shoulder”, it brings teardrops to my eyes;
It makes me think about John Denver, and his premature demise!
For he wasn’t singing about golden rays, their warmth brought by the Sun;
He was trilling about his daughter “Sunshine”, how he’d lift her when to him she’d run!

I saw him at his concert in Cincinnati, over forty years ago;
I took my seven year old daughter, he put on an amazing show!
When he sang the lovely song “Sunshine”, I held her very near;
I told her that I loved her, she was my little Angel dear!

Some years later came the sad news, he was killed flying his own plane;
I thought of my daughter and the concert, treasured memories to e’er remain!
I also thought about his Sunshine, and the pain she had endure;
The father she loved so dearly, would be with her nevermore!
