SURREAL

SURREAL

The light switches didn't work when I turned them on,
it was winter now and the summer had been long gone,
coal fire burned and we huddled together keeping warm,
maybe now it's forgotten but then it was always the norm.

Pictures in the flames, poking chestnuts, playing games,
and to that lifestyle, just ours alone, we all laid claims;
ironically, sometimes you wish that it was still the same,
now it was your choice, you're just the only one to blame.

The choices we have - crossed the road and was run over,
didn't have to be there, I wonder which of you will be my lover;
who will look after me when I'm old - maybe no one I'm told,
those old fires extinguished, shame because once I had gold.

I inherited my castle in the sky, it was my very own mystery,
what would you like to remember before you can no longer see?
