Poem -

Survivor

You left us on our own;
my mother broken hearted and alone,
so now I say goodbye to you with a heart of stone.

You were supposed to be the hero,
but turned out to be the foe.
I reached for you, but you were gone.
You up and left us, so quick to move on.

I went from saying ā€˜I love you father’
to please just don’t bother.
All your promises remain unfulfilled,
but bit by bit the truth was spilled.

I don’t know where I belong,
but believe me I’ll stand strong.
With pride, I’ll bare each scar
for they tell a story of a survivor.
