SUSPICIOUS MIND

I make no excuses for the words I choose
being tired of the deceit, of being abused
I question every smile, every word unsaidĀ
Fearful of Deceit of lies spread.
In the shadows of my mind, suspicion creeps
Whispers of doubt, like a serpent peeps
It coils around my thoughts, tightening its hold
I remain suspicious of the stories told.
Is it all just a game, a facade to deceive?
Or am I just too wary, too quick to perceive?
My suspicious mind is like a relentless foe
creating its reality, steady as it goes.
My eyes see betrayal in every glanceĀ
my heart keeps beating a fearful dance
distrust like poison runs through my veinsĀ
some say my suspicions will drive me insane.
But I choose to walk this lonely roadĀ
feeling safe when all aloneĀ
for me to trust in love, divineĀ
will forever chain me to a suspicious mind.
Wilford Barker.

Dearest Wilford B, Your last stanza speaks such volumes.
But I choose to walk this lonely roadĀ
feeling safe when all aloneĀ
for me to trust in love, divineĀ
will forever chain me to a suspicious mind.
Choosing to walk alone yet feeling safe is a triumph to any individual who can do this. Amazing lines, also not to be phased by what others think about us is an incredibly powerful tool, Sir, I just love this poem. š¹Ā
