Sweet 16

Sweet Sixteen
Written by: Mary Lamb
To Abigail Lamb
September 2019
The reflection that you see so blindly,
When you glance carelessly into the mirror,
Was placed there long ago, in remembrance
When your innocence began to feed their fear.
The vision inside, tells a story
Of a girl with an unknown past.
With whispers longing at her heart.
The only voice that chose to last.
Notice how the stars shine bright
Inside the daydreams of her eyes.
Without meaning, she gave up on life.
Wondering why her dreams caused her to cry.
I took to long to explain, my child.
It's time to escape from your cocoon.
Take time to focus on your future.
It arrived here all too soon.
Arise from your youth confused,
It's time you left your sleep.
Reveal the beauty that we prepared.
Tell why you hold it deep.
Use the forces that I taught you.
The ones that nurture your kind soul.
Brush the shattered pieces of your past,
Realize what you knew, you know.
Long ago, I promised you,
The gifts would plan your fate.
Laugh when you are able to see,
Only doubt will breed their hate.
Be certain & decide form what u already feel
Exactly what you want your future to behold.
Inherit these unique abilities
Passed down from kindred souls.
Have faith in your destiny
You have built inside
Face your fears with a shrug
Fight instead of hide.
Are you ready to embrace yourself?
I’m right here next to you.
I’ve passed down all I can for now.
My life will soon be through.
My advice ends with a riddle.
I do not know the answer too.
Take another look in the mirror.
Are you sure that girl is you?
