T. G. I. Fridays

T. G. I. Fridays

In the late nineteen eighties, I lived the single life;
Thrice divorced and doing well again, did not want another wife!
My main hang was T.G.I. Fridays, at least five days a week;
I’d get there by four thirty, pretty girls were what I seeked!

.
The bartenders took good care of us, with very potent drinks;
We tipped them very generously, for getting us tickled pink!
We were one big happy family, all searching for the same thing;
Someone to have a good time with, no talk of wedding rings!

.
One day a girl came in on Friday, that drove me very wild;
Brown hair that she could sit on, she looked at me and smiled!
I ran over and introduced myself, we talked for two straight hours;
She asked if I’d like to go to a party, I said “absolutely, my sweet flower”!

.
The date lasted until Tuesday morning, infatuation at first sight;
After that we were quite an item, together near every night!
There was only one small problem, she had a wooden leg;
She wouldn’t just have a shot of Vodka, she’d drink the whole darn keg!

.
She was beautiful when she was sober, but the booze changed her so;
I hung in there for six months, but decided, she had to go!
I think I really loved her, my beautiful Kathleen;
We probably would have made it, if only she’d stayed clean!

My Dear G,

Your lovely words inebriate me much more than dear Kathleen could ever get.  You, "have a wonderful sense of" love my sweet Angel, and Linda and I love you beyond what mere words are able to express.  God Bless You, too.

All our everlasting love,
Linda and Larry xxx

Great poem Larry, funny with a dark undertone... alcoholism is a nasty addiction and it ruins many lives and relationships
joyous times of fun
Found in bottom of barrel
Addictions lost love

Enjoyed this one
All my love

My Dear Lorna,

It is as both our Haikus imply about drunkenness and love, mixing humor with alcoholism is a touchy subject too.

Alcohol and love
One sober, the other drunk
Can not e'er endure

Hugs, Peace and Love,

I dated a woman who looke like Laurie Holden,  the girlfriend of Jim Carrie in the 2001 movie The Majestic.   She said she only drank on the weekends....but in 3 months time,  it was clear she had a problem.   I have had to break off at least three relationships because of the diseas of alcoholism.

Beautiful when sober indeed!    Lovely poem.  Cheers!  JCG

Dear JCG,

I know exactly what you are talking about, because their "weekends" start on Monday and end on Sunday.  I can honestly say this is the only relationship I lost to alcoholism, and it tore me apart. What different people they are when sober.  I feel so bad for you, having lost three to this disease. Thank you for your beautiful words.

Peace and Love,
Larry xxx

Larry, my dear friend...

the drowning girl smiles
throws her head back   flails her arms
laughing all the while

Sorry for the rather grim response...but underneath the light, carefree nature of this poem...all I can see is the grimness of her life/situation. Which, I have no doubt, was your intent.

your friend & fan,
J ;)

My Dear Friend Jason,

Spot on Jason.  There was some humor, but my true intent was to show how this horrible disease of hers broke my heart.

In whiskey's ocean
She drowns, unable to save
Tears inundate me

Peace and Love,
Larry xxx

Hi Greg,

Sometimes fun, but as the poem told, those six months with Kathleen were no picnic.

Peace and Love,
