THE TAXI DRIVER'S RIDE

The night had been a long one
She was ready to go home
Her friends were having fun
The streets: Donât roam alone
So her best friend she walked with her
To the âsafetyâ of a cab
Then returned to all her buddies
Had a drink; a drunken gab
Taxis were aplenty
The queue; she did not wait
Her husband he was sat at home
For him she wasnât late
A sudden shout she heard
âCome on love get on in!â
âOh nice one mateâ she replied
âWhat a hellish night itâs been!â
The taxi driver asked her
âWhatâs your destination love?â
She looked at him through hazy eyes
Common sense; devoid of!
She giggled with embarrassment
âOh sorry, think Iâm drunk!â
Not been out with the girls some time
The locks went down, âKER CLUNK!!â
âDonât worry Miss, youâre not the first
The tenth one of the night
Itâs not that I am counting
But I donât half see some sights!â
With this she blushed
Felt quite ashamed, âIâm not like this you know!â
âThatâs what they all do say my love!â
And off he went real slow ...
She felt a little silly
Didnât quite know what to say
She wasnât used to going out
Would die in the cold light of day
But home was now her mission
A laugh was all sheâd had
Catching up and having drinks
Meeting friends; for this was glad
The route he took a strange one
Not sure why he chose this
He said that it was cheaper
The traffic he would miss
So putting faith and trust
In a taxi mansâ direction
She slumped back in her seat
And raised not one objection
Winding paths; they made her woozy
Sick to be quite frank
The taxi driver stayed real quiet
She wished she hadnât drank!
But as the road forged onwards
She felt a little scared
This wasnât what she wanted
And to him she did declare
âI think you are mistaken?
This is not the right way back
I know Iâve had a couple
But weâre off the beaten track!â
Silence was his answer
And fear was her reply
The quiet it was tangible
The atmosphere asked why?
Before her fear could pluck
All her courage from her heart
The taxi ground right to a halt
The panic it did start
The locks they lifted up
And he heaved out of his chair
The door it swung wide open
The shadow loomed right there
His form befit a monster
A giant to her size
She knew there was no going back
She must stop her own demise
"Please she sobbed, don't hurt meÂ
My children need their Mum"
He sneered and leaned towards her
This was all part of his fun
"Beg" he snarled and sniggered
His breath a stench of rot
This monster fed upon her fear
And fear is what he got!
Poor woman, she did try
To fight his deadly clinch
But his arms they wrapped around her
No scope to even flinch
The things this beast did to her
Were not those of human mind
His actions were so twisted
Deranged; grotesque; unkind
He probed and he did beat her
Within an inch of what was life
Her husband if heâd seen her
Would not recognise his wife
But maybe in his favour
This was never going to be
The shadow he would disappear
His wife heâd never see
The taxi man was brutal
But the river it did hide
The remnants of what was once
The taxi driversâ ride ....
