That little girl

That little girl

That little girl in that house by the shore, waved to me every night,
An nine forty-five, she would sit by the fire, her smile bringing warmth and delight.
She waved on her first day of kindergarten, and when she got every test question right.
On my birthday she let go a balloon in the air, and on her birthday, she would go fly a kite.
On her last day of school, she threw her hat in the air, and waved with a passion so bright.

That brave and strong girl in that house by the shore, waved to me every night,
That house now was hers, since her parents passed on, but she waved, nonetheless hanging tight.
Even though getting on in her years, she waved till the day she saw the light.
I’ll always remember that girl by the shore, who waved to me every night,
An nine forty-five, she would sit by the fire, her smile bringing warmth and delight.
