~ The Addicted Poet ~

No liar, no chain smoker, no drinker, or thief
Would ever compare
To the longstanding temperaments
'twixt heretic or wordsmith, when begging relief
It is most difficult to break old habits unseen
For the light is everlasting
And its shadow the sting
'tis an honor to sculpt the picturesque
A blissful joy in conveying love's company
An education in delving deep
Into one's own darkness,
Where the truth, once unfurled,
Reflects all humanity,
There exists an otherworldly momentum
In wielding words
That once started, has no end,
To the inveterate poet
For without his love of self expression,
Without this sacred fountain, from whence intention
Flows and grows,
Into pages and formations of honest poetry
'tis inevitable,
The true poet would dive
Willingly,
Into the architectural abyss
Never knowing, upon which page,
Or bathroom wall,
His words, his thoughts,
His blood,
Would be splattered...

I tried to comment yesterday but it wouldn't post. I believe that writing becomes a need ...a physical and soul need Tony, where we can express the whirlwind of emotions in sometimes bizarre and strange ways...or correct...our brains would probably burst!!! You have written a beautiful and meaningful work here...hugs X
Thank you Miss MARION....."A physical and soul need" ~ I love your insightfulness......and the way you inspire with that insightfulness of yours!!........you are "Way Cool!".......smiles......T xo : )

wow what a work of art line for line ingenious Linda
Tony your poem magnificently epitomises the body, soul and character of the dedicated poet.
Blood, sweat and tears abound between its stand alone lines throughout and layer upon layer of poetic thoughts to take in and contently digest.
And blood is mentioned and for all the right reasons when writing for its the lifeforce that shakes and drives any poet to standards of poetry excellence and reward.
And what a rewarding write you have penned and gloriously so.
Thank you Tony for writing and sharing a real touch of poetic pure class.
And you display such clarity, unique vision and dignity in ALL your poems, a true gift and long may it continue.
I wish you well and peace to you my friend.
