The Audacity of Mortality

The Audacity of Mortality

Hey, Pops
I climbed a tree today
to see if could.
I knew what you would say
and it's not that I should.

But, pops
I learned a lot from today.
That bark leaves blisters and
pine needles prickle;
the smell smothers me

Also, Pops
I discovered today
that I'm afraid of falling.
And just like mothers vase
that I kicked overΒ last year
my bones can breakΒ
like that shattered glass.
My skin will splitΒ
like my ears when mother screamed
and I know this time I won't survive.Β

Haunting implications here, very powerful and very creative. I loved this one because you never saw it coming, not the depthof the conclusion. An artist that can make you guess is always a keeper. Dbp had my sentiments exactly, a wonderful first verse and I'm somewhat of a "depressionist" with a love for tragedy writes so it caught my eye, glad I stopped to read! ?
