THE BATTLE CRIES

I'm frightened, I'm shaking and covering my ears,
The noise is so deafening, I'm almost in tears.
The siren is roaring, another night of hell,
Please when will it stop? no one can tell.
The planes are coming, I hear the whistling noise,
Where will the bombs land? Lets pray for the boys.
They're up above fighting, and many will die,
And some never knowing, the real reasons why.
Oh please let me die I can't take anymore,
The windows are rattling, and so are the doors.
And the screams of the men, being killed by the dozen,
Could it be my dad, my brother, my cousin.
The night seemed to drag, till the morning drew near,
Then the sirens sounded, to give the all clear.
We ran out of the shelter, to look at the sights,
Where are our houses? Just bright burning lights.
There were bodies scattered, all over the ground,
As I searched for my family, I heard a faint sound.
I pulled back the rubble, and was shocked to see,
a small unharmed child, looking back at me.
The war is now over, we are clearing the mess,
My family are together, with three members less,
But our men are all heroes, be they dead or alive,
They fought for their countries, their families, their pride.
