The Blackness Unwinds

The Blackness Unwinds

They reach for happinessΒ
They fear punishment
Would never dare naughtiness
Bad souls are brought to their astonishmentΒ

Until the influential teachings
Have to end with them screeching
For help on the inside
All with their hands tied

They brought out the darkness
In their once good minds
That would shrivel and tarnish
So the blackness unwinds

I found it interesting that you switched from an abab rhyme scheme in your first stanza to an aabb rhyming scheme in the second, followed up once again by an abab scheme in your final stanza.
I can't say whether or not it was done purposefully. However, it did create an unique rhythm to you poem when read aloud, as ALL poetry should be when being reviewed but often isn't.
Well done, Gerald Dean
