The Centipede

The Centipede

A centipede is β€˜hundred-footed
Though this insect has no feet
It can have up to thirty pair of legs
Soft bodied flies are a favourite treat

Along with spiders, worms & anthropods
They have an acute sense of smell
& As they are canivorous
They will eat centipedes as well

Agile & fast they speed along
Faster than most prey
Not colourful creatures to stand out at all
Dowdy rusty reddish grey

Segmented bodies containing substantial pairs of legs
But strangely, they neverΒ  have equal amounts
Always an odd total of little pegs

Whilst they aren’t a pretty creature
Before you stand on one, think twice
These tiny predators will rid your home of things not nice

Devouring almost all house creepy crawlies
A continuous appetite
Though hiding throughout the daytime
So keeping safe & out of sight

Noctural centipedes love the moist
Dampness is where they dwell
So in wooded copses, under leaves
Or in your shower/bathroom as well

Our instinct is to kill them
We don’t want centipedes in our home
But they will clean your house
Of spiders & bugs at night when they do roam?
