The Centurion

The clamour of our roars
And wails of the many bleeding
Cacophony of the stab-wound symphony
Eyes and mouths of devilment
Ferrous air
Laden with blood and saliva
Perspiration drowning us as we slaughter
You are cordially welcomed to this bestial banquet
Dearest citizen
To find us performing, with unequivocal valour and diligence
Our patriotic duty
To tear those whom you oppose
Limb from shattered limb
Cut from ear to ear
Gutted, disembowelled, de-boned
Skin flayed, decapitated - our blades are honed
To shave the life from lands you covet
Rear echelon royals, make of us all murderers
Trades for which we offer signatures
Pledges to hack away your inconvenience
To polish and maintain your precious armchair freedoms
With the fat of the Dead
And the fear of dead men
Sleep deep, now, innocents
The debts you generate in greed and squandering
We have all but paid in full.

To read such overwhelming kindness pertaining to my writing is something I truly appreciate. Thank you so very much, Tony. It isn't a pretty piece, but I aim for effect, rather than aesthetics. To know that this was an effective write, in the opinion of such an accomplished poet such as yourself, is for me to know that my goal has been achieved. Love and light to you, my friend. :)
