The Clown Who Cried

                    Dedicated to Emmett Kelly
 
When I was just a young lad, there was a famous clown we’d see;
His face painted with him pouting, his mood, pure melancholy!
He had the noble honor, of the most noted in the World;
You’d see him ever crying, with his upper lip all curled!

I wondered if in real life he was happy, and this an act that he was sad;
So I posed this important question, to my Mother and my Dad!
In those days, without the internet, information was hard to find;
But they promised me an answer, to discover his true design!

A few weeks later, they said they had it, the real dope on this great clown;
They had found a distant cousin, who lived right in our town!
Learned, the tears he cried were real ones, his grimaces heartfelt;
But his reasons remained private, for the pain that he was dealt!

                              The clown who cried
                        Had not the need for acting
                            His tears were for real
