The cuckoo queen

an alternative view of a monarch

The cuckoo queen

Dearest Elizabeth did you care?
when the planters egg was laid,
our ancient order crushed and discarded
our nest usurped by your vulgar creed,
but why should I think you care?

Dearest Elizabeth what did you feel?
when to exile our clans were sent,
O'Neill and O'Donnell and many more
berated and cast from memory,
but why should I think you feel?

Dearest Elizabeth what did you say?
when your Lords and their heirs did covet,
hegemony plundered,our fledglings dead
our language and custom desecrated and denied,
but why should I care what you say?

Dearest Elizabeth where are you now?
your bloody legacy laid bare,
a province divided by bullet and bomb
for now held together but for how long?,
but do you really matter now?
