The Doors(Toll Man)

Have you always gone by

the straight and narrow?

Y'ever realize being but miles per second 

brushing thru stretches of highways

circling hell?

Where'n severed shadows

tall dark figures

in black gambler's hats

are there to greet you

as well as casually ask

to go for a ride.

What spell of craziness

may one be obliged

maybe drugs cloud inhibition

death for naive generosity 

to even consider giving this man a ride.

Gliding in, his rather calm and 

cool face

speaks not of destinations 

simply says, "Is dee backseat okay ta

place muh case?"

A grin to your assurance 

a forward glance 

to the road worlds acceleration, 

and not much longer till the introduction of madness he's brought along....

"Haf you e'ver seen sumptin like dis b'fore," he will fortunately say

while the moonlight glitters 

in passing light flashes

off of his blade,

staring into his eyes that mirror darkness he exclaims,

"Dis ya poor wandring soul, dis will take ya away!"

"Ya ever bin to da udderside?"

Face glaring within speech,

"I'm da ownly one ta take ya, so-uh

let's go n peace."

The black gambler hat on head slowly tips

swiftly the blade finds and cuts into it's meat, 

the car hurries out of lane

violently caresses itself around ancient gargantuan oak trees.

"Toll Man!" The wind hushingly whispers, while he emerges from the door.....a door to what end? 

A door now, later, or before 

perhaps to a plane like this one

waiting behind the doors.....maybe there's just nothing....

Nothing more.
