The Drag Kings

When we were both going to be high school juniors, in the summer of sixty-one;
There was a place my friend Roger and I used to visit, to have a lot of fun!
It was a drag strip by the name of Kildner, a quarter mile the race to spend;
On Saturday nights we would go there, to check out a cars top end!
Now this car was very special, it was his Fathers’ Bonneville;
And to take it out and drag it, was for us a giant thrill!
If his Father had known what we were doing, Roger would have been up “shits creek”;
But he told him we were going out female hunting, that some girlfriends did we seek!
But the moment we left his driveway, to “Kildner” did we head;
To take the Bonnie to its limits, and see how fast we’d sped!
I hid on the back floor under a blanket, for the driver was supposed to be alone;
But nobody ever looked into the windows, to see if we were in the no, no zone!
We’d make two or three mad dashes, down the quarter mile strip;
For both of us it represented, the penultimate ego trip!
Then we’d let the Bonnie really cool down, and fill her with some gas;
We’d come home and pray Rogers’ Father did not find out, and kick his freakin’ ass!

Hi Dear Debs,
Yes Debs, you are right, I was a rebel. I was so much of a rebel that I came close to joining the Confederates. It gives me great pleasure to write these. I'm glad you like them. Look for a lot more in the future.
Hugs, Peace and Love,
xox Larry

Hi Sweet Sparrowsong,
I think the comment superseded the write. It's so interesting that you picked up that his Father thought we were going out fox hunting, when we were really Drag Kings.Â
Hugs, Peace and Love,
xox Larry
Atmospheric involving write which once again demonstrates your skill at expressing yourself through poetry !
Wishing you all the best as always !
:)Â
Wow, Richard! Far out and truly appreciated comment. I'm on a road trip on business, am a little behind on my comments. Will get caught up next week.
Peace, and Love, my Brother Poet,
xox Larry
Peace and love to you !
:)
I love this one my Larry,
All you boys are so alike, but I would have been in that car with you too if I`d been there back then. I`ll try anything for a bit of fun! I`ll never be too old to join in the fun.
Well done for allowing me the chance once again to have another glimpse into your younger days. That piece was fun to read and made me smile for the third time today while I`m poorly.
I love you both my darlings.
God bless and keep you both safe for me.
G xx
Hi Dear G,
It would have been great to have a "bad" girl, sandwiched in between Roger and Me. Just think how great it would have been for you and me, to have been hidden under that blanket, snuggling. I'm going to post another of Roger and my adventures tomorrow, called "The Night of the Firecrackers". You will have to let me know if you would have been happy to be a participant in that caper too. Linda and I send all our love, and Cody wants a hug from his Auntie G.
Linda and Larry
P.S. Happy Birthday to you; Happy Birthday to you!!
