The Empty House

The Empty House

It was full of people but they were all me,
perhaps images of whom I wanted to be,
contented, at peace, not wishing to go away,
that's what I really needed in order to stay.

One was relaxed, ready to cope with anything,
another, accommodating, for what life may bring,
then there was truthful, not too many white lies,
someone looked good, because no health sighs.

There was a corner of love, needed from heaven above,
a chair of adventure, from someone who'd sent out a dove,
activities: swim, ride, drive, dance, sport, act, make love,
all pieces of life's material that fitted like a glove.

I gathered all of these things and started to sing,
attitude better now because Terry has left the building.
