The face of a chronic illness

The face of a chronic illness 
Is my face half the day
All of my day
My keeping it away face
My standing tall face
My trying not to grimace and scream at you face

It’s all the same face
It has green eyes, pink lips
It smiles and cry’s
But what you don’t see 
Is the determination 
The steally resolve
That holds the sadness away face
That holds the terror away face
The pure anger face
That rages most times of the day face 
And in those magic moments 
When pain is not here
Are moments of shear confusion, anguish and hope
Mostly hope 
That the pain is gone forever
