The Fence Around Your Heart

The Fence Around Your Heart

You built one with a bolted gate to keep me out,
if I wanted to enter or talk, then I had to shout,
I was determined to break down all the barriers,
if this intransigence wasn't mine, then it was hers.

I remembered when we roamed the plains freely,
gavorted as though you couldn't wait to see me,
look at your smile, the worries of the world gone,
dashed along playing tag, having fun in the sun.

I had to extend my love beyond the parameters,
we were designed to be accomplished creaures,
skilled in lovemaking, acknowledgement brings,
recognition to the heart and great love in all things.

You finally opened the gate with a rush of scented air,
it was just wonderful to know that you really did care.
