The Flutter

I heard a flutter within meÂ
An intruder, I ask it to leaveÂ
In response, it grows, his prescence a triggerÂ
I realize I must fightÂ
I have trained my mind for this momentÂ
I command my eyes to avert, however, they are glued by the enemyÂ
Disappointed but determinedÂ
I look to my mouth now to help meÂ
All that comes out is a jumble as my tongue loses the ability to create wordsÂ
Frustrated, I move to my stomach, the acidity its signature defenseÂ
To my surprise, the acid army has been ambushed by butterfliesÂ
Surely my legs will serve me well, this now my battle cryÂ
Although they too fail me as they shake, my knees lockingÂ
I’m beginning to panic, maybe it’s time to take flightÂ
I desperately beg my feet to run from thisÂ
They refuse, my army is disloyalÂ
I count on my final line of defense, an undefeated and decorated war heroÂ
My heart, my brave soldier
Falls, weak as he surrendersÂ
I have no choice now, I must concedeÂ
A loser in the war of loveÂ
I let it overtake meÂ
