The Foolish Lover

The Foolish Lover
Β
ββββ
She said I was the one she would loved.Β Β Β And in my hand she placed a dove.
She said,Β "don't ever set free.Β For it is a symbol of you and me."
Β
But days and nights slowly went by I noticed the dove begin to die.
So I went out searching for you in the park.Β Knowing that our love won't be kept in the dark.
Β
But in the park, this is what I see.
You telling someone else the things you once told me.
So I ran away, I had to hide.
I could not face the fear inside.
Β
But when I got home and opened my bedroom door.
There I saw the dove lying dead on
the floor.
I fell to my knees and started to cry.
And ask myself the question,"Why?"
Β
Friends and family went out late that night. They searched for me both left and right.
But when they came home and opened my bedroom door.Β
They didn't know what was to be in store.
Β
A foolish boy --- hanging from a rope.Β For love he died, just gave up hope.
Yes, Mom cried as Dad got me down.
But a single letter they found on the ground.
Β
And in it it read,Β " Bury me I crave, for my wounded heart I will take to my grave.Β Β Β Β But by my grave will you place this dove.
To show the world that I died for love.

This reminds me of a poem I read years and years ago! Perhaps it was the inspiration for this one? It began, if my memory serves me right, "Prison boy came home one day to find his love had gone away..."Β it tells how he died of a broken heart and the last line of the poem is the same line as the last one in this.Β I like your take on it!
Noah,
I liked this poem Noah. Looking forward to more.
