The Gallows

The Gallows

Heart beat thumps in a hollow chest,
Sporadic thoughts of past regressed.
Weary brow bestowed in sweat,
Seldom cries and late regrets.

Silence falls amidst the crowd,
Heightened senses, face enshroud.
Erratic laughter and cheers succumb,
Surreal and slow footsteps, emotions numb.

Venture betwixt beams and rope,
Faith discards and failing hope.
Rapid breath and apologies profuse,
Rigid limbs as neck in a noose.

Last will and prayer, whispers in fade,
Fear intrudes as reality evades.
Moments of adrenalin, a loss to plight,
Falling and break, dark to light.
