The God Test
Mohammed and Christ and Krishna and Buddha
All met in the desert to see who was gooder
And who was the wisest and who was the best
At teaching Mankind how to pass the God Test.
And what was the test these wise men all gave us,
Some test we must pass in order to save us?
Yes, what was the puzzle, the pieces to place,
That somehow would lead us away from disgrace?
Was it to worship, to pray and to hope,
Or through evil's darkness to blindly just grope;
To seek for the answers that only they had
To the questions we ask, that drive us all mad;
No, I don't think so. All their lessons were meant
To enlighten and guide us, their lives being spent;
Not to vex us and test us and tease us and taunt,
Nor boast of their virtues, their goodness to vaunt;
Not to make us all Fear some Devil below,
Some Horrible Hell where all Men will go;
Nor to make us all Fear some God high above -
But be Gods ourselves - each our own God of Love!
"My God!" Said Mohammed, to Jesus his brother,
"The Crusades in your name were a plague like no other!"
"Well," replied Jesus, "you are only half right,
For don't you forget - it takes two for a fight!"
"Yes," added Krishna, "be it Hindu or Jew,
Seems Man has a Need for to fight as they do,
No matter how many of our Gods they engage
As reason and banner for the wars that they wage!"
"Their curse is consistent," bold Buddha agreed,
"But let us now ask - How do we proceed?"
"For thousands of years now, our peoples have fought
For freedoms we offered, or so we had thought;
So maybe there's more to this puzzle than we
At first in our blindness were able to see!"
"Yes," said Mohammed, "we have all overlooked,
That our palatable truths can be overcooked!"
And He, Jesus, Krishna and Buddha, decided,
That though no religion should be derided,
That none had brought Man to his Spiritual Best,
And thus they knew - they had failed the God Test!
