The humble honey bee?
Busy buzzy bee you are in my vision
As you industriously hover airborn on your mission
I observe you as you ‘Waggle dance”
Your oval golden body, black bands on first glance
You look so happy & funny
Seeking out colourful flower heads
Collecting nectar & honey
Half of your body weight is stuffed with your wares
Stashed behind tiny receptacles
Amongst your tiny hairs
Away you hum gloriously abound
Alerting picnic dwellers with your buzzing sound
When you can carry no more
Tiny crop is full to capacity
You speed back to your hive
In eagerness with pertinacity
All your co worker bees await your return
So they can fill up a cell in the hive
You are but one of an army
all busy like you to make the beehive thrive
You literally work yourself to death
Your wings ragged flying with your last breath
Living no more than 42 days
Such an important part of nature in so many ways
Assiduously undertaking your operation
Pollenating food crops throughout the nation
How on Earth would we succeed
Without the humble honey bee
An essential factor of nature’s cycle whilst a delight for man to see
